How To Fix Massage Chair Remote

A broken massage chair remote can be quite frustrating, especially when you’re enjoying the benefits of your massage chair daily.

While it’s always advised to seek the help of a certified repairman, you can save money and time by following these steps first to fix your broken massage chair remote yourself.

This guide will help you diagnose and fix any problems with your massage chair remote, saving you from having to pay for expensive repair bills in the future.

1) Try Turning it On

Most massages require little to no setup, so you should be able to turn your chair on. If it doesn’t work at first, try changing the batteries or turning it off and on again. It’s a simple solution that can help you locate any issues with your remote.

Many remote issues are due to low batteries—but if that’s not your problem, see below for additional steps. If none of these fixes get it working, consider hiring an electrician as a last resort.

Massage chairs use complicated remotes with many wires and circuits; fixing them yourself is an advanced project best left for professionals.

2) Try Replacing the Batteries

Before anything else, try replacing all of your remote’s batteries. Often, a simple battery change is all it takes to solve a problem.

If that doesn’t work, though, you might want to consider taking apart your remote control and cleaning its contacts—especially if it has lots of buttons or has been dropped or gotten wet.

3) Check if Cord is Damaged

Before you get your hands greasy, there’s a simple first step: Check your chair’s power cord. In almost every case of remote-related malfunctions, it’s because something is broken or loose in the power cord. You should be able to quickly spot problems like frayed wires or ripped rubber sheathing.

If you find a damaged section of cord, cut off that section and splice on a new plug so that you can use an extension cord while you look for replacement parts.

You could also call around to massage chair service companies and see if they have any replacements on hand or would be willing to send one out for you—but that may not be worth their time if you live far away from them.

4) Check the Operation of Touch Panel

The first thing you want to do is try and operate your touch panel. The remote has a flat, button like screen that can be swiped or tapped. You can slide it up or down, side to side, or tap on an icon. If nothing happens when you press or swipe at it, it may just be a dead battery.

Batteries for remotes are pretty cheap so replacing them is usually one of our first fixes for these devices. If pressing doesn’t work either, then check out some of these other things that might be wrong with your massage chair remote before giving up and calling customer service (more on those things later).

5) Avoid Tilting and Shaking it

Most massage chair remotes get damaged by tilting and shaking. If you’re reading through your owner’s manual trying to figure out how to fix it, stop what you’re doing and do not tilt or shake it.

It will only damage it further. Instead, place your hand on top of where you are holding your remote, apply a bit of pressure, then tap gently on your hand as if there is a button under it that needs to be pushed (even though there isn’t).

Do not press too hard as you don’t want to crack or break anything. This should reset everything and hopefully bring your remote back from dead. (This sometimes requires multiple attempts.)

6) Use Other Remotes to Troubleshoot

You might find that your remote isn’t responding to signals; if that’s happening, try using another remote on your massage chair. If it works, your original remote is broken and you’ll need a new one. If it doesn’t work, you can contact your massage chair company for more help.

7) Reset Your Massage Chair Computer Board

The first thing you should do when your massage chair remote doesn’t work is reset your chair’s computer board.

To do so, press and hold down both buttons simultaneously for one minute. This resets all of your settings, including time left on a massage or operation of lights or vibrations. If it doesn’t work, move on to step two below!

8) Contact Manufacturer Customer Support

It’s obvious, but your first step is reaching out to customer support. Before you do that, however, there are a few other things you can do—they may save you time and energy. First, try using different batteries—the most common reason for a remote control not working is dead batteries.

Also, check that all connections are secure—if you press buttons and nothing happens but everything feels tight then there could be an issue with connection points. Make sure those connections are clean too (use rubbing alcohol if necessary). When in doubt: Contact manufacturer customer support.

9) Replace The Computer Board on your own

Power off your massage chair and unplug it from any power source. Remove any cushions, covers or backings that may hinder access to screws on your remote control unit. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver with a flathead attachment.

The location of your computer board will vary depending on make and model, but it’s usually located somewhere along or behind either armrest.

The computer board can be difficult to spot due to its small size so you may need an extra set of hands during this step if you have trouble locating it on your own. One way is just follow any cables that run into or out of an armrest – that should lead you right to it as well!

Final Word

Every item of furniture is different. However, you can use these steps as a general guide and tailor them to your chair. If possible, work through each step on your own before calling a technician over – even if they’re relatively simple tasks!

This will give you a good understanding of what they do, which will make communication with them much easier. Also, try not to be embarrassed about getting help; massage chairs are expensive items that we all need expert advice on occasionally!
